Sylvatica's Forest
Introduction
Hello and welcome to my digital biome! This is a place to put all of my various eclectic projects, which inevitably have botanical themes due to my insatiable yearning for trees and mountains at any given time. The site in itself is also one of the many projects, given that it's my first HTML endeavour. I'm having a lot of fun with it but am also very busy, so development will be slow! I like to read, write, do various forms of art, and consume media, and I hope to compile a lot of my passions here!

The Crane Wives have been my favourite band for a few years now, but my favourite song of theirs changes depending on how my life is in the moment. One of the things I love most about them is that at certain points you'll be listening idly to the lyrics, and then be struck by such recognition that it leaves you in shock. Some of their lines are so intensely relatable, and comforting, that they become a mantra in your mind. Here I Am is one of those songs for me. It got me through applying to uni, being rejected from my top choice, and many late nights of being confused about identity and self-worth. There's a lot of catharsis in shouting the chorus. Even though the song itself is pretty bloody depressing, it lets free some negative emotion and makes me feel recognised.

Kazuo Ishiguro's Never Let Me Go is a fantastic novel about growing older, growing more resigned, and loss - of childhood, friends, and identity. This book is even more impactful if you're in the stages of your life where you're becoming an adult, and experiencing many of the feelings that the protagonist, Kathy, struggles to come to terms with. Never Let Me Go is a Bildungsroman told in retrospect, and Ishiguro perfectly articulates the emotions of those childhood days you will never get back, the lost things that will never return to you, and the stupid boldness of youth. This is one of the novels I will look back on and remember exactly where I was finishing it, enraptured by every page, tears streaming.
